Back panel 1 of digipak (Front cover)

Back panel 1 of digipak (Front cover)

This is the original photo we had taken for our digipak. At first this was not meant to be used for the front cover. This was meant to be for an inside panel, however when we placed it out on the digipak template we had issue with sizing but when this image was placed on the front it worked well. Below are the steps I did to reach the final product.

After Effec
This is the finished version of the front cover of our digipak. This picture was again taken outside on a balcony. We wanted all our pictures to be in the same location and surrounding so it looks more professional. We I had looked at other digipak’s the pictures used on some of them were the same type just in a different style. This picture is a low angle but it was taken from the camera man being on the floor.  This photo best suited the front cover as it makes the artist stand out and also gives an urban theme to the photo.  Most other album covers have used extreme close-ups however this shot was one of our favourite so we decided to put it as the front cover. We had done certain effects on Adobe Photoshop to give the sky effect. I have taken print screens bellow to show you the step I did in order to make the background.

On the bottom right there is a parental advisory logo. This was something that had to be on a digipak as seen on other album covers.  As we had space on the corner it was good place to put the sign. We had experimented with the size of the sign as we wanted it to be as small as possible. Looking at other covers we saw that it had to be a bit larger so it could be seen from a distance, we then altered the size.

At first we had the album name at the top in the centre and “pretty boi” in smaller writing underneath it. We then looked at other album covers and noticed that the name of the artist was much bigger than the actual name of the album. We then switched the two headings around. The Artist name is in a large font right above him, which has a black on grey shadow effect.  We wanted to find a colour similar to the one in the background but it was slightly unclear. Also most other covers have a white or back colour. We then decided we would do a contrast of both to make it look more professional.

We used inspiration from Chris Browns album cover for our font. As we wanted to create a font that looked urban and suited our music genre we decided to go with street soul, as it was like a graffiti type of font, similar to Chris Browns album cover.
At first we decided to have Champion blend with the background with the blue/purple colour and place it in the middle. However we soon found out from our peers that they didn’t like this as it was unprofessional and didn’t look good. It spoilt the whole image. After some thinking we decided to change the picture of the front cover.

This is a print screen i took when i was designing my font colour. To get the shadow effect i used the gradient outlay and outer outline. After doing a few experiments with the different glow effect i came up with one. I also used the lighting tool to lighten the work "champion".

Feedback for front panel
-          The picture looks very good and professional. It is the ideal picture for a front cover as the artist is overpowering the shot. I also like the effect you have done on the male; it’s as if the sun is right next to him. to improve you could  make the image slightly bigger as the cover looks slightly plain

-          I like the low angle shot of the artist, and the effect you have done with the sky. It blends in with the image and makes it look professional and clear. To improve you could slightly lighten the image up.

-          I like how the artist is looking down at the camera from a high angle. It makes the cover look professional and gives an urban image. To improve you could position him slightly upwards next to his name.

Overall I am very happy with this cover and the effects we have created in order for it to look how it is. From the feedback given we only had to move the image slightly. The cover looks professional and defiantly portrays the R&B genre.
