Final Animal Video

This was our first preliminary task that we were asked to do. We had to pick a audio track out of the possible seven given to us and make an edit to the animal footage. We then had to choose scenes from the animal footage and try making it go with the music chosen. This task helped me widen my skills by letting me explore new ideas that would help make the audio and dancing work. I experimented with the speed of the music varying the pace of it from slow to fast. I also learnt how to use the reverse tool which was a good thing as some parts of the dancing was hard to edit. I also tried out different transitions between the footage to make it more like a music video.

Here is a print screen I took to show the technique i used to change the speed of the song. As the song I choose varied from pace it was hard to edit and make it go with the dance sequence. I therefore played around with the speed making it slower and faster in some cases. This was a good technique to use and experiment with as it allowed the music to flow well the dance routine the animals were performing. The dancing got slightly quicker and bean to cut from different shots quickly, this part was hard for me to match the song as at that point the song was slow, so i therefore decided to speed the song up to 50 percent.

If I had more time I would experiment with “wiring frame” as most music videos use this technique and it would have helped me to come up with different ideas for my own. As the video was cutting quickly between different dance routines it would have been good if I made both appear on one screen. I think this would work with the music I choose as it would be fast pace.

Bruno Mars- Nothin on you (analaysis)

The genre of this song is R&B, and hip hop, which is clearly illustrated in his music video. The beat is up tempo but in some cases very calm. The is a unusual video compared to other R&B videos as it doesn’t have much lighting and special effects. Also in many other videos you see a lot of dancing and something lively going on, this seems to be a calm video resembling the calm song. The only real affect that is used is the different pictures put together to make a face and the “cartoon” look. Also the thick white line around each character adds to the cartoon look. Furthermore you always see various different places in a music video i.e. one scene will be filmed in a club and the next somewhere else. This video is filmed on the same street for most of it and a few outskirts around.

Music videos are usually designed to keep the audience interested and therefore making them re-watch the video over and over. This is clearly visible in this music video as it’s so different and unique. Also the affects used on the whole video makes you watch it as different faces keep appearing.

This video is narrative based as it tells a story of how girls don’t have anything on each other  and if they did you should be the one to ignore it and move on. This can be concluded form the lyric “they might say hi and i might say hey but you shouldn't worry about what they say cause they got nothing”

I think this video is very good as it is different from most other music videos. its very creative with the effects used as it turns a montage f images into one which works really well with the whole concept of the video. the visuals reflect the lyrics well.

Marketing Strategy

Before becoming a successful solo artist, Hernandez was an acknowledged music producer, writing songs for Alexandra Burke, Travie McCoy, Sean Kingston, and Flo Rida. He also co-wrote the Sugar babes' hit song "Get Sexy" and provided backing vocals on their album Sweet 7. His first musical appearance as a singer was in Far East Movement's second studio album Animal, featured on the track "3D". B.O.B made his debut album called The adventures of Bobby Ray, at first it was to be released on 25th may however due to the popularity of "nothin on you" it was released earlier.

Most of the artists nowadays want their music to be publicised on televisions programmes such as MTV. They believe this is a good way or marketing their music as most people know is into MTV channels. Also another marketing strategy that could be used is marketing on local radios like Kiss 100 and Capital FM. Most of Bruno mars songs are played on these channels.

Another method of promotion is known as Fan Pre-Funding. This is where the artist goes to their fans to fund their new product/projects. This is mostly done by setting up websites allowing fans to access it. They could make donations to the album or video. When fans donate they are rewarded with gifts or goodie bags.  Bruno mars made star appearances on many shows including the X factor. Here he spoke about his album which allowed users to view it on his fan page.

Radiohead

For our next preliminary task we had to re-create Radiohead’s video from there single, lotus flower, from a song of our choice. This task will enable us to put forward all the techniques we have learnt from the previous year and make a sequence that matches the movement with the soundtrack. We also learnt a few more extra skills such as the “reverse” technique and how to speed images up so it could fit in with the soundtrack more comfortably. This task was more difficult than the other preliminary task we have done as the music choice was vital. Also a lot of editing had to take place as the soundtrack had to match his fast movements.

This screen grab shows the blinking technique i used. As the soundtrack I choose was fast and slow it would fit in with the movements. I then had to use this technique to speed the images shown on screen so i get a better insight on the music. This helped me play the right speed of music at the right time.

As the soundtrack I choose was mostly fast pace it was hard for me to make the soundtrack go with the scenes shown. As the person goes from dancing slowly to then going very fast, this was hard for me to cut as for the 3 seconds I couldn’t get a slow beat. I then overcame this by overlapping some of the clips with each other. This allowed the scene to be a bit faster than usual.
